For fifteen years The Union has urged readers to subscribe at ten cents monthly or one dollar yearly paid in advance. Yet many owe the paper, with collectors dodging and promises unkept. The paper vows no price rise yet but plans to raise rates within sixty days as costs climb and subscribers are urged to enroll.
About 200 Madisonville citizens gathered at Odd Fellow's Hall on Sunday to denounce alleged property sales to a colored family in the Bramble avenue area. E B Lyon, East Side High School principal, presided as attendees argued against a Negro purchasing a nearby residence. The piece critiques Jim Crow doctrine and questions a school leader’s role in promoting segregation, labeling the meeting undemocratic and injurious to American ideals.
