Mayors urged to accept funding under Better Communities Act
James T. Lynn, secretary of Housing and Urban Development, told the 41st Conference of U S Mayors that cities should accept the new formula because it provides forward funding for programs under the act for the first time. He said funding through July 1, 1974 would be adequate, with outlays for fiscal 1974 around 1.90 billion, slightly above 1.85 billion the prior year. An earlier speaker urged support for a federal tax increase if needed to curb inflation.
