Middletown police chased Veraldi Junior High students from Truman Moon Elementary School after they roamed the playground and wandered the halls without permission. The scene involved gathered students around Patrolman Lance Cole as finals loom for junior high and a week remains for elementary classes.
Two Middletown youths, Gary Scott and Gilbert Alvarez, await grand jury action after a closed hearing in city court. Both are charged with attempted murder in the June 7 Linden Avenue shooting that injured LeRoy Walters and two other youths. Bail set at 25000 each.
Middletown pathologist Dr. Harold Mamelok testified in the Charles Hille murder case that the coroner’s report provides no certain cause of death. He said Schiff’s autopsy was incomplete and could not confirm strangulation as the cause. Hille is charged with murdering his wife Helga Hille on Sept. 16 in Roscoe.
A Tuesday night barroom brawl in Greenwood Lake at Dear Old Dad Bar and later Yellow Submarine Bar led to eleven arrests, including one felony charge. Names from Hewitt West Milford and Greenwood Lake faced disorderly conduct or harassment charges, with one suspect held on reckless endangerment.
