Middletown scene near Truman Moon Elementary where Lance Cole stands with students while Veraldi Junior High pupils are chased away from the playground and corridors. Junior high finals run this week as elementary pupils have one week left before vacation.
Two Middletown youths, Gary Scott and Gilbert Alvarez, await grand jury action after a closed city court hearing. They face attempted murder charges in the June 7 Linden Avenue shooting that injured LeRoy Walters and two other youths. Bail set at 25000 each.
Middletown pathologist Dr. Harold Mamelok testified that the coroner's report does not establish strangulation as the death cause. He said Schiff's autopsy was incomplete and could not determine the cause, noting decomposition and lack of key evidence. The defense pressed for pulmonary embolism as a possible cause, while the body was found two weeks after death.
A barroom fight at Dear Old Dad Bar in Greenwood Lake and later at the Yellow Submarine Bar led to eleven arrests. Ten were taken by Monroe state police for disorderly conduct. one man, Ronald Freitas, faced reckless endangerment charges.
