Heroic crash landing saves many as jet collision probe begins
Federal investigators open CAB inquiry into the North Salem collision of an Eastern Constellation and a TWA Boeing 707. Captain Charles White, 42, died heroically guiding the Eastern plane to Hung Mountain. Four victims identified, 58 aboard the jet, most passengers survived. Investigators plan interviews, readout of cockpit tapes, and review of FAA communications from Kennedy and MacArthur centers.
