Nebraska officials and Episcopal leaders gathered in Hastings to honor Bishop George A. Beecher on the 25th anniversary of his consecration as Western Nebraska bishop. Bishop Stephen Keeler delivered the sermon at St. Mark's Cathedral while Governor Cochran and others spoke at a dinner with Hugh Brown as toastmaster. Beecher, a native of Pennsylvania who settled in Kearney, was educated at the University of Nebraska and Philadelphia Divinity School and has served in Sidney Kearney North Platte and Omaha Trinity Cathedral, with missions and churches established across Nebraska's sandhill region.
