In the Nebraska football championship duel at Sidney the Maroons clinched a narrow win over the Orange. Captain Adams sparked a second quarter drive by returning a punt 45 yards for Sidney’s lone score, lifting the Maroons to a victory marked by strong defense and late surges.
The 1930 Big Ten official team includes Scotts Halfbacks Skinner Spotts Bluff Atwood Kimball GrIs Wold Sidney and Fullbacks Howell Morrill Masse Sidney with honorable mentions Scott Mitchell Kelly Bridgeport Tackke Wolf Sidney.
Albert Hyland and John Dolson of Broadwater face Friday hearings on possession and sale of intoxicating liquor. The charges stem from the death of James Shuler two weeks ago, reportedly linked to excessive whiskey drinking. Trial had been set for last Saturday but was postponed by lawyers.

Weather over the weekend reduced mountain snow drifts that blanketed the county after the November blizzard. Roads are opening though some rural routes remain difficult. highways were left in poor condition by the storm. Sidney streets were cleared by crews who hauled snow for days as city workers race to repair. State forecasts expect fine weather in western Nebraska with colder temperatures ahead.
Fire, likely from a faulty chimney, swept the C. P. Herboldsheimer residence south of Potter last Sunday afternoon. The two story home burned completely with much furniture lost. The family occupied the lower floor when observers saw the upper story engulfed. neighbors and town people quickly responded.
A postseason football game between Sidney and an undefeated Nebraska high school will be postponed by a ruling of the Nebraska Athletic board. The board bans gridiron clashes after the Saturday following Thanksgiving and the rule is embedded in the constitution, leaving no power to violate or amend it.
An old advertising case notes St Jacobs Oil once a top seller, but after new owners stopped newspaper advertising saving about two million dollars annually sales plummeted. The piece argues ads keep products in public view and warns against assuming strong recognition eliminates need for promotion.

Rev E C Van Hise of the Episcopal church visited Hastings Sunday for the 20th anniversary of Bishop George A Beech er's consecration. A new $1500 altar at St Mark's cathedral highlighted the program while Bishop Beecher, honored at the gathering, remained in a Hastings hospital after a recent automobile accident injuries.
The American Legion will sponsor a showing of The Man from Wyoming starring Gary Cooper at the Fox Theatre Thursday night. The film, delayed by a blizzard blocking roads, will honor tickets from the original booking as announced by theatre management.
Rev F C Mills of the Methodist church addressed Sidney Rotary members at their regular Friday night gathering. Ruth Jane Gates also performed on the program, entertaining with two piano solos.
Sidney is officially awarded the Big Ten football title at a Scottsbluff meeting of conference coaches. Griswold Masse and Chesebro make the all conference team, while Potter Gurley Bushnell and Dix are dropped from the league roster leaving 18 schools. Mitchell places two on the honor squad. Arthur J. Packer a Mitchell farmer who shot five pheasant hunters after demanding 25 dollars for crossing his land was found insane by the Scotts Bluff county insanity board and ordered to Hastings state asylum. Testimony indicated his mental state had worsened since imprisonment. Frailey and Polk lost an eye each. William Frailey was shot in the side. Morrison and Miller were uninjured.
Lutheran rallies in Sidney North Platte Omaha Denver will raise 400000 for Midland College western seminary at Fremont and Martin Luther seminary at Lincoln. To date the 19 district target stands at 211200 with four districts last week adding 24700 toward the goal.
The White Eagle Oil corporation credits The Telegraph as an excellent advertising medium for its Banner gasoline. The unparalled sale of the new gas line is attributed largely to the newspaper ads, with The Telegraph among about 500 papers carrying the campaign message for Banner’s vibrationless meter.
Harry R. Farrell former manager of Sidney Bottling & Storage is to be returned to Sidney from Missouri to face trial on charges of embezzling $50.67 from the company. The alleged act occurred about August 30 this year. Farrell was in charge for several months and came from Illinois.
Phil T. Snyder of Sterling died of heart disease while driving near Julesburg. A following driver saw his car drift and Snyder slump in his seat before the vehicle stopped. He had traveled western Nebraska for the Ridenour-Baker Grocery Co. for years and was well known in Sidney. The exact cause was undetermined, with theories including exertion, indigestion, or gas fumes.
Senator C. W. Johnson of Potter returned from Lincoln where he conferred with governor elect Charles Bryan and senate leaders. He says economy should guide the coming session and backs exemption of gasoline tax for tractor and farm machinery use, noting large farmers pay hundreds annually and that law amendments are sought to relieve fuel from tax.
