Province raises funding for seniors lodges and care costs
The province announced on July 29 2008 a 2.2 million LAP grant to lodge operators to offset rising operating costs and allow a 0.75 per day per resident increase in the LAP per diem. Low income residents earning under 27650 yearly will pay less as operators must ensure at least 265 monthly disposable income after housing. The same period also saw a seven percent fee hike for long term care facilities effective November 1 2008 to cover higher costs, with subsidies via the Alberta Seniors Benefit and Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped.
