Donald Hughes and Glenn Riddle headed to Chicago with eggs. Residents travel to Lincoln for business and visits. Wealthy Babcock arrived from the East after two weeks including the World Fair.
Hubert Manning and wife were summoned to Gilmer Thursday due to Mrs. Manning’s sister Mrs. Adell Washburn illness. Vernon Cox and daughters from Wyoming visited in the Joe Davis home. Cox and Davis sisters. Ladies Aid moves July 4 meeting to July 6 at church parlors. attendees to share hobbies and recipes. refreshments served. all ladies welcome.
Carl Mitchell was ordered to appear in Lincoln on Tuesday for examination for entrance to the forestry service. Hubert Manning drove him to Lincoln and reported after returning home that Miten had qualified for the service and was en route to Omaha.
Mrs. W C Palmer and Mr W C Palmer prepare for a monthlong visit with daughters Mrs Van De Stege and Mrs Numbers en route to Steele City by car. The Padres travel with Mr Van De Stege and two children and expect to arrive Sunday for a family reunion with Wallace Palmer.
In Fairbury Nebraska Frank Lenker writes relatives he plans to return to Steevie City around July 10. Mr and Mrs Haddix visited relatives in Fairbury and Western the first of the week and return home Monday evening with Mr and Mrs Howard Haddix.
The Presbyterian Church announces a well planned meeting next Sunday inviting all young people. Our Daily Vacation Bible School runs through the week with Mrs Filinger as acting superintendent. Primary teachers include Mrs Harley Thrapp Ruth Garrett. junior teachers Miss Elna Arner Miss Maxine Earhart Missie Gretzinger Harold ley. intermediate teachers Mrs Hugh Greenwood and Mrs E B Nelson. Enrollment nears seventy with attendance averaging above sixty. Closing exercises set for next Sunday at church hour. parents of school children are especially urged to attend. Come to church.
The W C T U will meet at the home of Mrs R H Clapp next Friday July 7 at 2 30 PM Visitors are welcome and urged to attend noting the time and place in the community notice.
Mrs Henry Meyers and Mrs Long picked cherries at the Carrico farm on Tuesday. Mrs Barn and children stay at Fairbury with Mrs Barn's brother Andy Long. Perry Carrico repaired the pump with John Janssen's help. Art and Emiel Kenning sold wheat to Farmers Elevator in Steele City last Friday. Mrs Long departed Sunday for Colorado due to a relative’s illness. Doc Smith’s brush fire damaged the front tires of his automobile before the blaze was stopped.

A free movie show and a band concert drew a large crowd to the Legion Auxiliary ice cream social Friday night. The Inter-Community band played new selections and old favorites while the movie theater seats overflowed with attendees also interested in the music.
Eleven automobiles led by the Inter-Community band carried twenty one members and others to invite neighboring towns to Steele City for the Fourth of July celebration. Three more cars joined at Diller. The 127 mile itinerary ran through Endicott Jansen Harbine Diller Odell Lanham Hanover Washington Morrowville Mahaska Reynolds. Weather slowed progress with dust mud and rain near Mahaska but boosters received courteous reception and music. Fred Kyle spoke in each town outlining attractions of the coming celebration. Names of band members on the trip included Elmer Kersting Maxine Earhart Stewart Earhart Fay Clark Marie Wehling Ruth Garrett Carl Fahrenwald Clair Darling Thomas Woods Ernest Pearson Loyd Thrapp Francis Clark Rex Green Max Bundy Harlan Gehrt and Del Wehling.
