Rook club hosts weiner roast near Steele City

Young people east of Steele City sponsor a Saturday soiré e weiner roast in the canyons north of town. Members received song sticks for roasting weiners and marshmallows around a blazing fire. Food praised, though some sausages tired of the roast and rolled away.

Obituary of Margaret Jane Wymore Simmons

Margaret Jane Wymore Simmons, born April 22, 1867 near Atchison Kansas, died June 6 near Steele City Nebraska aged 70 years 1 month 14 days. She married N R Simmons in 1892 and is survived by two sons George and Nathan, daughter Myrtle Lichtenberger, eight grandchildren, two brothers, and numerous relatives. Funeral services were held June 8 at the family home and Odell Christian church with Rev. E Powell officiating.

Opera House Program Set for Saturday Evening

Recreational Supervisor Harlan Gehrt announces an opera house program on Saturday evening June 1 with readings by Doris Harper and Mrs Will Garrett, whistling by Lutile Bennett, musical readings by Katherine Bennett and H Gehirt, duets by Dell and Velma Wenkl ing, a solo by Mick Adams, and songs by Charles Lietz and Charles Gebrt. Attendance is expected to be high though some parts are tentative.

School meeting votes funds for coming term

The annual meeting in School District No. 1 approved 6500 dollars to cover operating expenses for the next term, a figure 500 dollars under last year’s vote. A few patrons attended as the Cassell family traveled to Beatrice and Omaha for events and visits.

Presbyterian Church News and Local Milestones

The church announced morning and evening services next Sunday with a focus on children and youth. A children day program featured primary and junior departments led by Dorothy Shepherd with a baptism service for Ken and Bert Neale.
