Mr and Mrs Bert Hughes welcomed Mr and Mrs Homer Yeakle and Mr and Mrs Onas Hughes of Fairbury and Flora Hughes and Rupert Hughes and families for a Sunday evening visit. Cake and home made ice cream were served as refreshments.
Herman Fahrenwald undergoes tonsil removal after infection from beet field work in Ida ho. His wife also had her tonsils removed. Operations were conducted by Dr. Peoples and Dr. Morgan.
Local items report Mrs. C C Clark and children visiting Lincoln for summer school. Activities include a new lighting system at the croquet ground and a horse shoe court. Bake sale planned by the Young Woman's Guild for Saturday June 17 at P A Duis hardware. Various visits, deaths, and notices documented along with farm ads and local business mentions.
The church schedules a Sunday June 18 meeting after the Sunday school hour to decide matters for church welfare. Last week’s services featured a Children’s Day program with cradle roll enrollment and a choir led by Mrs. Anna Earhart. The Young Women’s Guild hosted a June 8 country supper and program, voting to hold a food sale on June 17. next meetings resume in September.
Thelma Wright and Agnes Crane Wright hosted a baby shower for Conrad Edward Lawrence at the Howard Wright home with games and a souvenir booklet Thoughts on Baby. Guests prepared the booklet while refreshments featured strawberry chiffon pie and ice tea.
The annual school meeting was held last Monday evening and a quorum reached after canvassing. The school approved 6500 dollars for expenses for the coming year. Two vacancies remain in the high school facility. Dinner guests at W J Kelly home included d Stern and wife of Lincoln Jim Kelly and wife of Norfolk Louw Kelly and wife of Blue Springs E Lloyd Jones and wife of Wymore Clifford Clark wife and daughter and B J Kelly wife and daughter Carole Lee.
Precipitation measured 1.10 inches Thursday evening and 1.25 inches Friday. Weekend clouds cooled temperatures. Eva Outhier left for Carleton for a short visit with sister before returning to Long Beach. Mrs. Hazel Jodell and Mrs. Clark hosted dinner with Floyd Hughes party. Chas Donogan visiting from Greenview, Kansas. Eva Garrett staying with Celestine Riddle to assist. W W Palmer confined at home with sciatic rheumatism.
Velma Webhling daughter of Mr and Mrs John Webhling wed Haod Leo Cox son of Mr and Mrs J Cox June 1 in Fairbury Catholic church Rev F J OBrien officiated in a large ceremony. Mendelssohn Bridal Chorus Lohengrin and My Rosary were part of the service. A three course wedding breakfast followed for the contracting parties attendants and family with an evening reception at the bride's home.
Two inches of rain fell here Friday night a most welcome rain. Floyd Westlake and wife visiting parents Mr and Mrs E W Talbott have returned to Wallace Kansas. George Parks, wife and daughter Merna Talbott and Mrs Martin Pitzsimmon from Lincoln left Saturday on a two weeks pleasure trip. They plan to visit Mr and Mrs Anthony Vaughi Powell Wyo. In Golofado they will spend time with relatives. They plan to see Yellowstone National Park and other places before returning home. Miss Lavon Justis employed at the courthouse in Washington is home on a week's vacation. Miss Maxine Oswald and Arline Justig were weekend guests in the home of the latter's uncle Joe Davis and family. Grant Wing spent a few days in Gilead in the homes of Mr and Mrs Jack Copenhaven and in the Andrew Ewing home, also in Steele City with his brother O J Wing. Prof L B Herring who taught two terms here will teach at Wayne Kan this coming year. Will Herring, wife and daughter Patty of Wichita Kans were weekend guests in the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Abler. Belva Lee Cassell of Steele City was a weekend guest in the home of her grandparents Mr and Mrs KE W Talbott. Mrs O Cassell and family and Miss Hazeldean Manning of Steele City attended the Children's Day program and basket dinner here Sunday. Children's Day programs were given in the Methodist and Baptist churches Sunday morning. Mrs H L Mueller who has been staying with her son Russell Krapp the past five months in Helena Montana returned home Friday. Her two grandsons Edwin and Bobbie accompanied her home to make their home with her.
The couple weds amid a charivari and will reside in Waterville after their Omaha wedding trip. The bride, Diller High School graduate, has a wide circle of local friends and siblings known as the Wehling Dun family. The bridegroom, Waterville High School graduate, has worked in mechanical and aeronautics related fields and is employed with Harvester Co.
