William A. Webb, manager of the Texas Centennial Exposition, promises Sam Houston a position at the exposition opening in Dallas on June 6. The note references the one hundredth anniversary of Texas independence and the ongoing celebration plans.
Mrs. F. C. Payne and four sons from Sebring Florida spent last Sunday for an overnight visit with Mrs. Payne's sister Mrs. M. C. Sampson and family. Mrs S P Deems visited her daughter Beulah Hargle road of gs. Her granddaughter Jean returned home with her.
Movie stars Johe ole and tiladys warthout and cadie siarn visited the Texas Centennial Kaposition during a recent exposition. They toured the fair, viewed exhibits, and met attendees at the event.
Elmer Kersting collected a nine dollar bounty on Thursday for nine coyote scalps presented at Fairbury county seat. The animals, from a single litter, were dug from a hole in Cliff Asche's pasture and exposed in Keasting's Garage after discovery by George Kruger.

Chester Scharmann traveled to North Platte Thursday for his uncle George Scharmann's funeral, who died Monday after weeks of illness. Andrew Hardesty has returned to work as section foreman after illness. Maude Evans of McCook visited her aunt Mrs. C. Kiskall in town. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Funk of Hollenberg on Wednesday. Billy McLachlin and Rolland Morgan left Tuesday for Camp Jefferson. Mrs. C. McDonald and daughter Lila were in Lincoln last weekend for business. Temperature rose sharply Monday with a 95.6 degree reading, followed by cooler days Tuesday and Wednesday after heavy rains statewide.
Rex A Green of this place received the presidents appoint ment as chairman of a Jefferson County Historical Society committee to trace the Oregon Trail through the county. He may appoint helpers to locate and mark the trail. C C Howell is president and Margaret Chambers secretary of the society.
The Presbyterian Church schedules a Children's Day program under Mrs. Lyle Cassell with Cradle Roll by Mrs. L. Earhart, including infant baptism, starting at 10 45 during Church Hour. Parents are urged to call Mrs. Earhart or the pastor for baptism details.
Director W B Banning says the final cattle tuberculosis test is done but indemnity for condemned cows is not fully paid. The legislature allotted 100000 for the biennium ending July 1 1987, with 8000 reserved per division. Indemnity claims will be paid as funds become available, and counties owing money could accelerate payments.
Miss Kerniece Gretzinger and Miss Lila McDonald traveled to York on Tuesday. Gretzinger attended the wedding of Miss Gwendolyn West in Milford Tuesday evening. The two returned home on Wednesday.

A county picnic for all ex service men and their families is planned for Sunday June 14 at Picnic park in Diller at 11 am. Free lemonade will be served and each family should bring a picnic lunch. Activities include sack races ball game tug of war and a band concert. District commander to attend.

Miss Genevieve Drake daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard A Drake of Steele City and Mr Raymond Frerichs son of Mrs Anna M Frerichs of Talmage were married at the Drake home in Steele City at 3 pm Friday June 5 in a ceremony performed by Rev J E Filinger before twenty guests. The couple will live in Nebraska City after trips to Dallas for the Texas Centennial Exposition and the Pike's Peak region in Colorado.
