Napoleon Bonaparte dies at Chislehurst as Empress Marie Louise mourns beside him. Physicians report a rapid decline from critical condition, with last moments near 10:45 A M. Empress swoons, post mortem exam planned, burial at Chiselhurst Chapel, Queen Victoria sending condolences.

A fire at about 7 15 am on the steamer Belle Ida destroyed the cabin after flames broke out in the chamber maid’s room on the starboard side. The Mary E Hensley was saved when the tug Tyler separated the ships. Watchmen J Esther and John West suffered facial and hand burns and were hospitalized. The Belle Ida, owned by Captain Woods, carried $25 000 in Union Insurance. The blaze appeared accidental.
The assembly introduced nine bills by Mr. Wales and others covering freightways, military asylums, and Clermont county turnpikes.
