Ex-convict denies Selko implication in Zelko case

Ex convict Clifford E Swearinger, 42, underwent multiple polygraph tests in Chicago over three hours regarding the disappearance of Amelia J Molly Zelko 47 official of The Spectator. Police say local tests were inconclusive and Swearinger admitted living next door to Zelko prior to her Sept 25 disappearance. Zelko was secretary treasurer of The Spectator for 21 years. A reward fund has been started by Councilman William H Wilson for information on Zelkos whereabouts.

City awards light contract and passes slum measures

The city council awarded the downtown repair and traffic signals contract to Virgil Cook and Son of DeKalb for 11,636, below the 10,628 estimate. They adopted three ordinances on nuisances from dilapidated buildings, annexed two lots in Black Roads Acres, and formed a public works department joining water and street services. It also closed part of an alley on Marion street parking, noted unmessed meters at Michigan street, and authorized 26,540.37 as first payment on the southwest interceptor sewer to contractor Jack Rodeghier. A letter of condolence was planned for Willis J. Murdock’s family.
