Legion Charity Midnight Show At Rialto

The Harwood post American Legion sponsors a charity midnight show at Joliet’s Rialto theatre next Wednesday at 11 45 p m. A first run film and vaudeville acts will raise funds to aid Joliet’s unemployed during winter. The White store and WKBB radio support with amateur nights and ticket incentives for shoppers.

Mystery Plane Flies Low Over Joliet City

A mysterious airplane was seen flying at about 500 feet over Joliet last night. It circled the loop district and headed southwest after not landing at the municipal airport. Officials traced no registration and suspect possible bootlegging use, while lights were on to aid a landing.

Robbery at Rudman Grocery As Gunmen Steal Cash

Gunmen robbed John Rudman grocery and meat market at 1007 North Scott Street as owner Rudman closed the store shortly before 7 PM. They escaped after taking $12 from the register and warning not to call police for 15 minutes. Three youths present described two men in dark overcoats, one 20 with glasses and 135 pounds, the other 27 at 180 pounds, fleeing in a tan car.

The Spectator announces its Thanksgiving issue will publish Wednesday morning November 25 instead of Friday November 27 to feature holiday bargains. Advertisers and housewives are urged to prepare copy early for the special edition.

Plan search of all cells at prisons sweep ordered

Acting under Warden Henry C. Hill every cell in the old and new prisons is being searched for weapons or escape aids. The move follows an attempted escape involving 20 convicts per day and a hole found in a freight car used to hide prisoners. All cells are being checked as a precaution against further deliveries.

Alumnae Dance Planned by St Francis Association

Hundreds of couples expected at the fourth annual St Francis Alumnae dance in the Elks club ball room Thanksgiving night. Arrangements led by Elizabeth O Connell Mary Mahoney Eléanor Franck Audrey Walsh and Josephine McBride with a ten piece orchestra headed by Harry Kelly.
