Bridge plan draws mayoral criticism in Joliet debate

Joliet council approved the Joliet route for Interstate 80 and a high level bridge south of McDonough Street. Mayors insist the move serves the community while opponents from the Committee to Save Our Homes voice objections. Governor Stratton supported cooperation with the federal bureau of roads, and funding risks were noted if plans lag past 1960.

Barbara Floyd the 18 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Hime Floyd of 652 E Jackson, polio victim for five years, shares her uplifting view on disability. After a five month hospital stay she began a campaign to regain the use of her legs and now walks with crutches and braces. Each day she travels to a private pool on E Jackson near her home to swim and strengthen.
