Springfield reports indicate a plan to build a new prison adjacent to Stateville within a year on state property to relieve overcrowding. Warden Frank D. Whipp cites 5,500 prisoners and urges a 1,500 to 2,000 inmate capacity, while Gov Horner and public welfare director A. L. Bowen warn ongoing crowding could spark unrest.
The Circle of Serbian Sisters will hold its Fourth anniversary dance at 1003 North Scott. The event starts at 7 oclock with admission of ten cents and the public is invited.
Senator J. Hamilton Lewis promised to aid Joliet in expediting local banking conditions at the Advertising Club of Joliet. The club outlined a new meeting schedule for the year with one evening meeting monthly and a noon meeting each Wednesday except the eve of the evening session. Wilfred Burns of The Spectator will speak on Motion Picture Advertising at the next noon meeting.
A double header at the high school gym raises funds for the milk fund. Police Captain Irvin Boe leads the cops against Fire Captain Thomas Clemens and his team in the curtain raiser.
