S M VanCamp Dead Pioneer Civil War Veteran
Stephen Merit VanCamp a Custer county pioneer and Civil War veteran died at the Soldier's Home Boise Idaho on May 1 1911. Born March 19 1840 in Pennsylvania he served in the Woodstock Light Guards and the 15th Illinois Volunteer Infantry later tending military trains. He came to Salmon River Idaho in 1865 worked as wagon master and prospector before moving to Boise. His brothers James H VanCamp of Challis and Henry of Chicago survive with other kin.
