Reports say the teacher did not appear at the school as scheduled. Residents formed searching parties and scoured the area after learning he was absent. A telegraph to Antelope and Dickey failed to locate him on the stage. It is feared he may have taken his own life and left town on foot.

Keyes taking the booby prize. The evening featured a phonograph, games, luncheon, ice cream, cake, and candy, ending near midnight.
