Fresh seeds arrive as town notes many locals

Local notices include births, deaths, fines for fighting, eye surgery, bank safe hiccup, and a Poverty Social at the church with prizes for best dressed.

Prosperous year for Custer County mining amid copper slump

The 1907 mining season in Custer County saw strong output despite copper price slumps, led by White Knob in Mackay now under Empire Copper Co with 1.2 million capital, and Lost Packer at Loon Creek, which operated a 100-ton smelter producing high grade matte. Additional activity included Loon Creek placers and hydraulic plans, with Yankee Fork district’s Golden Sunbeam mine expanding with new mills and a 30-man workforce.

Bonanza Potential Hinted In Volcanic Ore Deposit

The mine shows underground rich pay channels and wide open cuts with free gold values of 10 to 12 dollars per ton on the best course. Samples yield coarse native gold at 25 to 50 cents per pound, with gold near 39 or 10 dollars per ounce. Silver is found in upper workings, and bonanza assays are reported along the strike for several hundred feet. The region features volcanic rhyolite andesite geology, abundant water power sites, and timbered terrain.

Notice of Lode Claim Expenditures and Proceeding

J H Rickey directs owners or assigns of the Shafter Dewey and Blue Cloud lode mining claims on Caster Mountain in Yankee Fork District Idaho to contribute 1206.00 for 1906 1907 labor and recording fees or their interest will be lost. The notice cites a total due 618.00 after prior expenditures and states failure to pay within ninety days after publication will transfer ownership to the undersigned. Dated Custer Idaho February 15 1908 with initial publication February 5 1908.
