New York January 25 Dr John D Quackenbos warns that auto suggestion treatment reveals rising alcohol use among women. He cites high weekly champagne bills, frequent wine cocktails, and widespread sipping at functions. He notes school Misses and college girls as visible participants and recounts a luncheon where twenty four debutantes drank thirty six bottles of champagne while many smoked.
James H. Brady, chairman of the Idaho Republican central committee, announces his intention to run for governor. He will seek the party nomination at the state convention in Boise on September 1, 1908, and would accept if nominated. Brady lauds himself as a top Republican candidate for the office.
Des Moines reports Miss Elizabeth Sohm editor of the Storm Lake Vidette published a card lamenting the fight for what she believes belongs to her and joking that she may marry a printer to continue in newspaper work. G A Craig of the Lytton Star replied that he is eligible to fill the vacancy in her print shop and identifies as a Missouri democrat.
Forty years in print and seven language fluency are cited as Miss Sohm’s credentials while agreeing to show recipe ability and willingness to mend garments. The notice then shifts to county warrants due for 1907 and 1908 with interest, plus a local ball report, and ends with State Mine Inspector Bell’s 1907 report detailing mining fatalities, workforce, and output by Idaho counties notably Shoshone and Custer.
