Old Pioneer Jacob Stratton Dies in Bonanza Idaho
Jacob H Stratton an old pioneer of the Salmon River country died suddenly in Bonanza Idaho on July 11 due to pneumonia and was buried July 12. He served as artilleryman under General Lee in the Confederate army and endured severe battle injuries. A noted scout and messenger for posts during the Union Pacific Railway era he also worked with Capt Jim Bridger. Known as Uncle Jake he was born in Virginia and valued as a generous brave Southerner and pioneer. He left a son a physician in Pennsylvania and had recently prospected in Deadwood Basin before a rainstorm caused pleurisy and pneumonia.
