Mormon faction battles Borah in Idaho convention

A Salt Lake Herald dispatch from Poca to Jul y 22 reports Senator Heyburn in the southeast opposing the Borah drive in Idaho Republicans. He threatens hostility in the Senate to Mormon leaders backing Borah and even hints at unseating Reed Smoot if Mormons persist.

Fatal Fire Kills Three Children and Man in Middleton

A 2 am blaze at Samuel Moudy home in Middleton Idaho destroys the dwelling. Three young children and Charles Justis die while rescuing others. Mrs Moudy hospitalized in critical condition. Justis perishes after saving his sister's children. Funeral plans and interment at Canyon Hill Cemetery. Community offers sympathy.

Republican convention delegates named in Challis result

The Custer county Republican convention met in Challis to elect five delegates for the state convention in Pocatello on August 1. The gathering drew a fair delegate turnout, with strong presence from major precincts, and notable antagonism toward Borah. Delegates were instructed for Borah for U S Senator and Judge Stevens for district judge. Lewistown County’s pledged vote could tip the nomination if supportive of Stevens.
