Hermit Phoebe Meeks of Brookville Secretive Life
A century long Brookville Indiana tale tells of Phoebe Meeks a 65 year recluse who never left her second floor room apart from a single sister. Once engaged to Hadley Johnson their abrupt June farewell remains unexplained though rumor says love died with her opening of the door to the outside world. Johnson later prospered in Utah mining and sought closure but Phoebe refused contact until her death leaving only sparrows and a single window as witnesses.
