The New Challis Housei is described as a strictly first class hotel in Custer County. It offers prompt meals and convenient accommodations near the drug store, with stages stopping nearby for travelers.

On July 16 1900 near Challis Idaho Miss Clyta Bradbury the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Bradbury died after a horseback ride with other children at Mr E P Wilsons farm on Challis Creek. The horse bolted during a race leaving Clyta and Ruby Jones seven year old daughter of Mrs Chas Wilkinson in danger. Clyta died within minutes with a head wound and possible internal injuries. Funeral services were held July 17 at the L C O F hall.
