Generations of Diplomats Fox Family Holds Longest Albany Posts
The Fox family, English-born, has held the consul post at Falmouth since May 30, 1794, starting with Robert W. Fox appointed by President Washington. Through four generations, Howard Fox currently serves as consul, with his son likely to succeed him. Debates over succession persist, but the State Department preserves the line for sentimental reasons. Army enlistments surge as rapid growth fills units, with 403 new recruits in the past week and 417 on the fourth increment, boosting artillery strength and officer promotions. Six-masted ships and daffodil cultivation in Lincolnshire offer maritime and agricultural notes of the era.
