Reports of weather, deaths, mail delays, and local notices mix with state and national legal summaries including the two mile limit case. Letter from Challis Idaho dated February 6 1907 attacks Nicholas Romanoff and global plutocracy. It mocks Rockefeller and others while alleging vodka profits fund the Russian crown. The writer urges Nicholas to move to Idaho and warns of a hanging bee trial against imprisoned miners, accusing Roosevelt and Idaho officials of bias.
A January 25 1907 White House directive suspends final certificates patents or title evidence under public land laws until an on site examination by a government officer. Several exceptions apply including prior satisfactory ground examinations contest cases and certain agricultural or clerical reissued patents. The order notes settlers lose a chance to defend rights as title hinges on inspector reports.
The Salmon Recorder notes the board turning down Frank Ribblett’s bill, calling it graft, with County Attorney Cowen warning he will pursue court action. Ribblett has drawn a four year salary as water commissioner from Custer county, limited previously to $80, and may not have resided in the county. Lemhi board and county attorney plan to push the matter through all courts if needed.
