Japanese Cavalry Break Russian Fort at Tyong Ju

A mixed Japanese force attacked near Ping Yang last Sunday morning, dispersing a Russian detachment that had built a temporary fort defended by about 600 Cossack troops. The Russians offered stiff resistance before retreating, abandoning the fort as the Japanese entered Tyong Ju amid cheering for the emperor. Japanese casualties were one officer and 10 privates wounded. Russians reportedly left three dead and carried away some captured men.
