A reflective Idaho ballad recalls the mining boom and rush era, mentioning Challis and the Boise region. It portrays gold prospecting, frontier characters, and the rise and fall of fortunes, ending with a nostalgic farewell to the Golden Long Ago.
Last Thursday afternoon March 30 1905 Bob Whitsett and Myrtle Grubb of May Idaho were married at the home of H C McKendrick in Challis with Judge Horton officiating. The couple departed for Pahsamarol after a serenade and plans for the future were shared.
The infant son of Mr and Mrs Wim Smith was very sick and sent to Custer for Dr Kirtley. Ed Fitzgerald is improving after illness. Hansons six horse coach carried sixteen passengers to Loon Creek driven by Bill Giles. J A Czizek and other miners head to Lost Packer mine at Loon Creek. Stage carried men to Loon Creek to work for Lost Packer company. C V Hanson arrived on business. H F Terry and Gus Betz returned from Skylark mine. 8 H Wilcox improves rapidly. Clayton boys held a farewell dance for those going to Loon Creek. John Ernst in Good Friend mine finds high grade ore. looks promising. Ed Baker hauls cord wood. John Hodson visited from Bayhorse. Clayton baseball club dissolved due to Loon Creek boom.
School monthly summary lists 24 enrolled and 87 percent attendance with 99 percent punctuality. Star scholars include Thomas Campbell Albert Smith Lizzie Germer Roy Tracht Ruth Hosford Naomi Hosford Aileen Sullivan Johanna Sullivan Linzie Papworth Mable Baker and George Webb. Several pupils absent due to illness.
Report lists enrollment figures and attendance for the month with percentages. Names students Frank Casto Elmer Casto Willie Lomberdina Peter Lomberdina Ennna Malm Doris McKenzie and Henry Thomas are noted as neither tardy nor absent. G Grertsox serves as teacher.

Mr and Mrs Geo A Ellis hosted about sixty guests at their near completed new residence in Custer county on March 22. The event featured festive conversation, a bountiful supper, and a housewarming that followed the removal from the burned old home. Ellis, a prominent local, and his large family were hailed for hospitality and happiness in the new ranch home.
L L Warburton rock and brick mason left for Glenn's Ferry on a visit. Some locals hope the article is true and he has money to settle debts, easing financial strains.
In a small Kansas town near Topeka the Christmas service ended abruptly when two old maids in the choir sang the nativity hymn and two old bachelors responded with a shouted chorus. A snicker from a pew goat the finale, ending the service.
