Jan Zivick was crowned Homecoming Queen last Friday in a ceremony that featured a brand new crown. The longtime old crown, used since 1964 after switching from floral wreaths, had seen its day and was replaced by a donation from a friend of the school who wished to honor the 1972 Queen with a bright shining headpiece.

Mrs W W Bodager and Mrs Clarence Kunkler were re elected to the Wayne County Chapter Board of the American National Red Cross at Oak Chapel Methodist Church Wooster Also attending were Lew Burnett Mrs Donald Kimes and Lind sey Williams The chapter reported 1447 blood donors yielding 2506 units and 300 volunteers contributing hours to Bloodmobile runs The Red Cross aids military families and serves 24 hours daily to assist servicemen veterans and families Four breakfasts for inductees were held this year few due to reduced draft calls but veteran assistance rose Financial aid was provided to three veterans when education checks were delayed A total of 26 veterans were aided with VA benefits filing A total of 580 cases were served and 34 families received financial aid Eleven families who suffered fires were aided with food clothing and temporary shelter Wayne County citizens donated 6747 to disaster relief Over 440 certificates were issued for water safety classes Eleven volunteers spent over 1000 hours bringing comfort to residents of Wayne County Home Apple Creek State Institute and local rest homes Nurses assisted with the blood program and last year seven home nursing and two mother baby classes were taught in area high schools

Conservancy Sets Winter Schedule for Lake Drawdowns
Muskingum Conservancy District, the Corps of Engineers and the Division of Wildlife announce a winter drawdown plan for several lakes. Pleasant Hill lowers 15 feet from October 13, with Clendening Leesville Piedmont Seneca and Tappan dropping 3 to 4 feet at specified start dates. Charles Mill lowers 4 feet from December 1.
