Park Vandelism Curbed By Law

City fathers at a budget hearing addressed recreation fund cuts and vandalism in parks. They upheld a sidewalk contract on South Main Street and discussed curfews, crosswalk safety, and enforcement, with a budget shortfall of 400 dollars in the recreation fund under review.

Rittman Press Wins Fifth State General Excellence Honor

The Rittman Press captured first place for general excellence among Ohio weekly tabloid newspapers in a state contest. It also earned third place for best special editions and an honorable mention for community service, with its Aug 30 1951 Home Coming edition noted for extensive prepublication promotion and a 34‑page glossy two color special. Maple Heights Press, edited by Samuel J. Niver, won a third place for general excellence among tabloid papers.

Teen-age dance and community events this weekend

City Hall hosts a teen dance at 8 30 pm Saturday with 15 and 25 cent admission. Emergency Relief Committee meets Tuesday Sept 30 at 7 30 pm. all organizations to register and send reps. St Ann's Altar Society bake sale Saturday Sept 27 at Ward's Market starting 9 am. Ev U B Church School promotes a children event next Sunday during Sunday School hour. Rittman Girl Scout Committee hosts a wiener roast at Mrs George Ehemann’s home in Doylestown Thursday evening leaving Rittman at 5 30 pm.

Recreation Get s H Coming Money From Auction

The Home Coming Committee earmarked 825 dollars for public recreation from ticket sales and prize drawings at the Rittman Dalton game Friday. Bob Bodager credited public support, noting expenses exceeded 2300 dollars and tickets must cover costs. Winners included R M Sowle of Akron with a 1952 Chevrolet, plus several other prizes. Rittman High beat Dalton High 20 to 0 in the opener.

Boosters Open Membership Drive

The local Booster Club begins its membership drive from Sept. 26 to Oct. 3. Members can join at the Orrville game on Oct. 3. Photographers Glenn Berkey and Ralph Overholt film the game from a special press box, with the booth run by Robert Steiner and the PA system by Milan Zivkovich. The club has hosted dances and year end banquets and supports civic programs. A gala Halloween celebration plans are noted for next week.

Bachmann Joins Newspaper Staff as Associate Editor

Burl Bachmann a newspaper man from Ashland has joined the Rittman Press as associate editor with editing and advertising duties. He moved his family to 79 S First and has a background as editor of Union Malleable Mfg Co monthly and F E Myers Pump Co monthly workers publication. He also worked on the Loudonville Times.

City Reverts to Standard Time in Ohio Communities

Rittman will switch back to standard Eastern time at Saturday midnight along with Akron Cleveland and several other northeastern Ohio communities. The change follows action by the city council.

Sky Bugs Club Schedules Sunday Flight Time

Recreation news notes Sky Bugs Model Airplane Club moved flying to Sunday at 4 30 pm due to darkness and EST change. A City Hall meeting Monday Oct 6 at 7 30 pm invites women for winter craft classes and schedule input. Playground program runs daily 3 30 to 5 pm at North St School playground.

Biggest Pumpkin Contest Seeks Largest Carved Produce

The Bitfman Press invites entries for a Biggest Pumpkin contest with first prize five dollars in merchandise and second prize three dollars in merchandise. Entrants should report circumference by tape and call the Press or local correspondent before the Saturday deadline October 18 at noon. Pumpkins will be measured, announced, and displayed at the Press office.
