Civic Center will open Friday after the football game with Northwestern with free sandwiches drinks and chips. The center in the Safety Building is a Three Arts Club project and will host students and community events with support from local clubs and organizations.
Rittman gears up for the Apple Festival Parade on Thursday October 2 starting at 6 p.m. Apple Queen contest entries rise with about 20 candidates, and a marching band, police cars, and antique autos will join the route from West Hill School to Rittman Square. Prizes include cash awards for floats bicycles and queen prizes totaling over 100 dollars plus a transistorized portable for the queen.
The Rittman area previews the 1870 UF goal of 18 600 including government and utilities workers and schools personnel. Spear and Glazier lead local drives with Oct 20 finish, Nov 13 dinner, and Dutch treat awards. USO services in Vietnam and at overseas centers are cited as morale boosters with 136 stateside and 55 overseas operations.
Doylestown Lions Club plans a 2 to 5 pm reception and tea at Hazel Harvey Elementary School honoring Lions International President W R Dick Bryan and Mrs Bryan. Bryan has returned from the Toyo Japan convention and a tour of Ohio, visiting 10 districts.
Rittman explores a single north side well field to supply the city water system amid long standing insufficiencies cited by the Ohio Inspection Bureau. Ohio Drilling advocates testing with a projected cost of 5000 to 6000 dollars for exploration and a single-well system to enable a feasible treatment plant later, with landowners open to a test agreement and city officials to follow up with Ohio Drilling for talks.
Rittman welcomes Karen Elizabeth Mikkelsen, fourth Rotary exchange pupil from Argentina, born in Denmark with Danish roots, from Sierras Bayas. She will be a senior at Rittman High School, sponsored by Olavarria Rotary Club in Buenos Aires province. She arrives after layovers in Buenos Aires and Miami, and a Cleveland flight. She enjoys sports especially swimming.
