United Fund announces appointments with Ben Bodager as commercial division chairman aided by Allan Broadhurst and John Lenhart. F. O. Kanehl heads the special gifts division with Robert Heames and Ralph Overholt. William Holt leads the organization committee and George Falk heads the utilities division as the second annual drive opens October 16 with a $12,675 goal.

Glen Adams Elected New Band President

Glen Adams aged 24 of Sheldon Avenue was elected president of the Band Parents organization at a Monday meeting. Mrs Ed Taylor is vice president, Mrs Wayne Dysinger secretary, and Mrs Roy Faber treasurer. A nominating panel led by Ben Imbhoff proposed the slate to about 20 members.

One Dead and One Escapes in Ohio Car Crash

A Rittman man, Noah Lovins aged 30, died from skull injuries after his car flipped several times Saturday night near County Roads 504 and 215 between Rittman and Sterling. He lived in Rittman a year and worked for Crown Steel Corp in Orrville, with prior service in the armed forces. Services were held in Dunlow, West Virginia. Surviving relatives are listed. In a separate incident Everett Owens, 32, of Rittman escaped injury after leaping from a stalled car on a railroad crossing west of Rittman. the car engine stalled as a train approached, and the car was carried along the tracks nearly a mile.

Trustees To Decide On Township Zoning Question

Milton Township trustees will hear the zoning committee report next Tuesday after nearly six months of study. The panel was formed to gauge public reaction to zoning the townships and whether to place the matter on the November 1964 ballot. If findings favor proceeding, the State Department of Development will continue preparations for possible zoning.

Fire department busy with multiple calls around Rittman

Four calls this week sent Rittman and Wadsworth fire units to incidents. A hay barn at George Ryneer farm north of Rittman on Medina County Road 51 burned, with $1500 damage and two rabbits lost. Firefighters spent three hours at the scene. A trailer of waste paper at the Ryneer farm dump fire was moved off and light damage resulted. A grass fire behind John Skraba and Fred Orr homes on Ritter Drive was extinguished. A Monday evening blaze damaged the kitchen at Dave Walters residence 179 West Hill. cause under insurance review.

Sister of Local Woman Dies

Services for Mrs Ella Saurer 80 of Apple Creek sister of Mrs Ben Saurer of Rittmen will be Friday. She died Tuesday at Glendora Rest Home after a long illness leaving children Roy Lakeworth Fla Pearl Bidle Clair Saurer and Mrs David Ritchie all of Apple Creek plus four sisters and a brother. Burial will be in Apple Creek with Rev Stanley Hartman officiating.

Annual Family Dinner and Booster Fund Events Planned

The fourth annual eat out precedes the home football game this Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. on the North Street School blacktop, with rain plan to the First Street School cafeteria. Proceeds fund football gear while a white elephant sale is set for Sept 28 beside the First Baptist Church. Booster Club donations support majorettes and cheerleaders uniforms, with multiple fundraisers totaling 1,037.97.

Three Pass Test For Patrolman

City manager Charles Mann reports the Rittman Police Force vacancy narrowed to three after exams last Thursday. Two candidates were disqualified for poor grades or physical defects. The Civil Service Board will submit the final three names Derrel Woodward of Lodi Charles O Brier of Rittman and William Keen of Burberton.

Mrs Martha Garver Dies at 46 in Ritman Home

Services were held Monday for Mrs Martha M Garver 46 of 149 Frederick Street who died Thursday night after a yearlong illness. Born in Medina she lived in Ritman 26 years. She and husband Ellis, an employee of Packaging Corporation of America, had a son Randall of Akron and daughter Kay Hensley of Ritman. She was a member of Ritman First Church of Christ. Burial followed at Producer Memorial Cemetery with Brother Robert Hanze officiating. Gillman Haines Funeral Home directed arrangements.

Mother Of Local Woman Is Buried

Services will be held today for Mrs Anna Maurer of Easton who died Tuesday at Barberton Hospital after a heart attack. She lived in Easton 38 years and was a member of East Chippewa Church of the Brethren and Euston Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include her husband Charles three sons Edward in Euston William in Wooster and Richard in Doylestown ten grandchildren and three sisters. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Rev Guy Buch officiating.

Stanton suit seeks 25000 in Wayne County from Maibach

Harold R. Starkey Jr. files for 25000 in Wayne County Common Pleas Court against Dale Isaac Maibach of Rittman alleging injuries from a September 10 1961 bicycle collision with Maibachs station wagon on Ohio 604 near Ohio 76. The Starkeys claim negligence and are represented by W H Wertz and Harold Starkey Sr.
