Fire damages basement kitchen near Rittman

A fire in the basement of Christ Gable’s residence four miles southwest of Rittman started from a coal oil stove. Wiring and flooring had slight damage before the blaze was extinguished.

A first grade pupil from The Bright Corner A Rittman was late to school for three mornings in a row. The teacher warned him sternly, but the boy answered with earnest, big eyes that he ran all the way to school each time.

Ten Bids Placed On Doylestown Water System Project

The board of public affairs in Doylestown received ten bids for the village water system with eight for construction and two for tanks. Bids ranged beyond the $54,000 original estimate and will be reviewed by engineers in Cleveland. Public meetings set for next week will hear vendors’ pitches for equipment such as pipes meters and valves.

Trials Set For Five As Eight Plead Guilty

Wayne county common pleas court heard indictments from the grand jury with eight pleading guilty. Steve Yurick Joe Yurick Frank Yurick and Will and Mohler of Chippewa township admitted two charges of calf and pig theft and face six months jail during a three year probation period with suspended sentence to the reformatory. Others pled guilty to burglary larceny and theft and received short jail terms or suspended sentences. Trials for arson theft and dog theft were set for early October for several defendants including Louis Jaquet Jack Lyle Arthus Doker and Jerome Dannemiller.

Rittman Lions Open Season With Big Win At Orrville

Rittman backed by 300 supporters and a new band routed Orrville 147 0 in the season opener at Orrville Saturday afternoon. Simonton kicked off for a quick start and Dohner crossed for the first touchdown as O’Brien added the extra point. Two more scores followed, with Simonton intercepting a pass and returning it to set up Dohner’s second TD. Orrville fought late, but Rittman held a two touchdown margin as the gun ended the game.

Rittman Indians travel to Canal Fulton to face the Huskies in the first game of the season Saturday at 2 30 pm on the new athletic field. First Brethren Mark County Meet Homecoming
