After a smooth night at the Rittman varsity football game the Indians upset favorites East Canton. The band performed well and fans and both teams showed good sport. Teachers, parents, and friends are congratulated for the strong school spirit.
Council backs a Chamber of Commerce plan to beautify the northeast entrance. Phase I in 1971 includes installing a culvert across old route 94 and raising railroad poles to ensure safe line height, with an estimated cost around 100000. The city will begin work this year using a $6000 budget allocation.
Eight Rittman girls were nominated for the 1971 Apple Queen by local clubs and groups. Final judging occurred Thursday by Art Mumaw, Boyd Crum, Martha Shane, and Lois Stickler. The queen and first runner-up will be crowned September 22 on the square with Walt Marquart officiating. Finalists include Kim Arnold Debbie Carter Sheila Fisher and Debbie Hawkins among others. coronation will precede a Saturday parade.
Emma Maibach 77 of RD1 died Friday at Lodi Community Hospital after two days illness She was born April 9 1894 in Sardis Monroe County to John and Mary Blatter Ramster and lived mainly near Sterling She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church Her husband Joseph died in 1967 Surviving: seven sons Fred Seville Alpha John Joseph Jr and Dale Sterling Robert Orrville Arthur Creston two daughters Mrs Mary Ellen Gerber Sterling and Mrs Margaret Calame Creston a brother Ben Ram sier of Rittman a sister Mrs Bertha Bauman Sterling 38 grandchildren eight great grandchildren Services Sunday at Gillman Funeral Home at 1 pm and 2 pm at Apostolic Christian Church burial in church cemetery.
Mrs Eileen M Williams aged 65 of 75W Sunset Drive died Wednesday at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a long illness. Born May 14, 1906 in Sebring she lived in Rittman since 1924 and was a Milton United Presbyterian Church member. Surviving husband William H and children Gerald Cox Krahenbuhl and Kathleen Cox Judy Krahenbuhl, plus siblings and eight grandchildren. Burial at Hitlcrest Memorial Gardens. Rittman Police announce new telephone number 925-8040.
Plans for the 1971 Apple Festival are shaping up with activities set Wednesday to Saturday September 22 to 25 on the square. Nine booths sponsored by Jaycees St Ann Altar Society Delta Club Masonic Lodge Rotary Welcome Wagon Three Arts Junior Mothers American Legion are listed. Gooding Amusement will operate rides Wednesday through Saturday evenings from 6 pm. Presale ride tickets are $1 for six tickets, available from Rotarians. Kiddie rides Saturday afternoon reduced to 15 cents. regular evening rides 35 cents each.
City hall battle centers on whether private citizens may fund and pave parts of Rittman Road near Trimble’s property. Council splits over Trimble’s insistence the project extended the curb line to Pleasant View Street and whether a sidewalk ban ordinance should stay. The vote ends with council killing the sidewalk requirement in new street paying contracts.

Mrs Cassie Workman of 93 R D 1 Rt 604 died Wednesday at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a long illness. She born October 11 1877 in Ft Gay WV lived 24 years in Rittman. Surviving two daughters, two brothers, two sisters, nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. Services Saturday at Gillman Funeral Home with burial in Bettman Cemetery. Rev William F Harris officiated.
