The Rittman Labor Day A S A Slo Pitch Tournament starts Saturday September 4 through Monday September 6 with 78 teams and 2 000 to 3 000 attendees expected. Donated admissions go to the Rittman Booster Club. Winners receive trophies for top teams and individual players. Local girls softball and Little League games mark Monday events. Commissioners are Richard Britton Robert Rosenberg and Louie Winkler. American Legion operates a food stand. Participating teams hail from North Canton Wooster Smithville Akron Mansfield and more.
The annual Apple Festival will run September 22 to 25 on Main Street from Bodager Agency to the Bank. Amusements by Gooding Amusement Co Inc of Columbus. Parade Saturday at 3 p.m. includes local floats and possibly outside bands or antique autos. A teen dance, pet parade, and a beauty contest are planned with entry details and judging to occur the 22nd. Library closed Labor Day. fall schedule starts September 7 with posted hours.
A Grand Square Club invites couples to a free Buddy Dance at Rittman City Hall on Thursday September 2 at 8 pm to explore square dancing. Regular western style lessons with instructor Don Rand begin September 9 at 8 pm, promising a friendly, engaging group and a fun activity away from TV.
Ashland Wayne County Director Mrs S W Anthony says a Head Start program will start October 4 at Calvary Baptist Church for 30 low income preschoolers aged 3 to 5. The program, funded 80 percent by federal sources and 20 percent locally, runs October through June with four days of classes per week and Monday for staff training. Volunteers are needed. interviews and hires occur September 8 from 9 to 3 at the church.
Rotary meets at noon Thursday at United Methodist Church. Rittman Fire Department gathers at 7 p.m. Grand Squares hosts a Buddy Dance at 8 p.m. City Hall. Saturday the Rittman Boys Club meets 10 a.m. to noon at the JA Building. Monday no school due to Labor Day. Tuesday Booster Club 8 p.m. Milton Township Trustees meet Sterling Fire Station at 8 p.m. Three Arts meets at bank social room 8 p.m. for officer installation. Wednesday Welcome Wagon special meeting at bank social room 8 p.m.
