Elizabeth McGorry Dies At 82

Services for Elizabeth A McGorry of 97 South First were held at St Ann's Catholic Church. She died Sunday at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a week as a patient. A St Ann's Altar Society member, she lived in Rittman 40 years, born in Mansfield. Surviving: two sons Paul Joseph of Rittman and John of Twinsburg, two daughters Mary Kathryn and Jeanne of Rittman, two sisters Clara Taylor of Columbus and Mary Yost of Canton, four grandchildren. Burial was in Rittman Cemetery with Rev Dennis Farr officiating.

Police Alert For Vandals Reported In Sunset Heights

Reports describe vandals damaging property in Sunset Heights and the north section of Rittman. They took bathing suits, scattered pins, spread charcoal, damaged a bird bath, overturned benches, pried a paint can lid, and spilled paint as barking dogs woke residents. Police are on alert for further incidents.

Queen Contest Starts For PTA Festival

The Rittman PTA Festival kicks off with a queen pageant at 1 p.m. at North Street School blacktop. A Rittman High freshman to senior girl will be crowned based on PTA memberships sold in her name. Voting runs during the festival. memberships cost 50 cents per person or $1 per couple and count as one vote each.

Rittman swimming pool will remain open Saturday September 10 and Sunday September 11 and again Saturday September 17 and Sunday 18 weather permitting according to an announcement by City Manager M J Gosney.

OSU Diplomas Awarded at Summer Commencement

Three area students received diplomas at summer quarter commencement at Ohio State University in Columbus. Olivia Turner Gandy and Terry A. Steele of Creston and Larry E. Chase of Sterling earned degrees. Gandy earned a Master of Science, Steele a Master of Arts, and Chase a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Dr. Phillip R. Shriver, president of Miami University, delivered the commencement address. Exercises were held in St. John Arena.

Sterling Parents Informed Marine Dies In Vietnam

Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Rauschenburg of Sterling learned from the defense department that their son Marine Pvt. Douglas Rauschenburg was killed in action in Vietnam. The family had just received a letter from him stating he had arrived in Vietnam after enlisting earlier this year.

Cy Jones Dies After Heart Attack At City Hall

Rollin S. Cy Jones Sr 56 died of a heart attack at a city hall meeting. He was a 30 year Rittman volunteer firefighter and honorary member, Boy Scout official, Legion member, and former Lions Club member. He served in World War II and worked 33 years at Packaging Corporation of America. He resided in Rittman 40 years. survived by wife Edith, son Rollin Jr, daughter Barbara, siblings, and parents. Burial at Rittman Cemetery.

Two Injured At Morton Salt Warehouse Roof Fall

Two young men fell from the Morton Salt Company's north warehouse roof in Doylestown while painting. Scott Hilty and Gary Davis were taken by ambulance to Wadsworth Rittman Hospital with possible broken bones. both remained conscious as of press time.
