The 13 week strike at Packaging Corporation of America ends as Local 150 of the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite and Paper Mill Workers ratifies a new contract 549 to 133 at Rittman High School. The agreement provides five cent hikes this year and next August 1, 23 years service four weeks vacation $500 life insurance enhanced hospitalization and about 50 working condition changes. Return to full production by Sept. 26 with recalls by department in under three weeks.
Rittman Jaycees host annual Fly-In and Drive-In breakfast during Fly Day at Wadsworth Airport on Sept 9 and 16. Ham and eggs served 7 am to noon. plane rides over Rittman area and night flights on Sept 8 and 15. Flights cost tickets at 8 pm Saturday. event showcases antique and new aircraft, autos, glider demos, fire engines, and aviation exhibits.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Dysinger will be honored at an open house for their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at 49 West Sunset Drive. Albert aged 85 and Mae 84 were married September 10 1902 in Medina Methodist parsonage and have lived in Medina vicinity. They have one daughter Margaret Hemming of Columbus and five grandchildren. Their son Wayne and family host the event with stated belief their long marriage rests on hard work and doing what is right.
The district telephone directory for Rittman and nearby towns will expand this fall. Manager Roy Moffett says the book will cover Rittman Sterling Wooster Orrville Smithville Marshallville Kidron Big Prairie Lakeville and Apple Creek with wider listings and city look. Distribution is planned for this fall.
Rittman council weighs a one mill operating levy for the November ballot. Finance Chair Ed Bernhardt pushes the measure citing $25,000 annual contingent fund drain and $16,000 annual levy return, while opponents say departments can trim costs. Four votes needed. action required by Monday to meet Sept. 14 filing deadline.
All boys aged eight to ten interested in becoming cub scouts are invited to the Rittman Cub Scout Pack 3400 meeting at Diversion Hall Thursday evening September 27 at 7 30. Scoutmaster Don Emch says the pack is planning for the fall and winter season and applications will be processed on a first come first served basis. Applications are available at Daley's Furniture Store and should be returned to Emch by September 20.

Fred Blough, a 24 year old from Rittman, had been missing for a year before FBI agents found him in Detroit and charged him with draft dodging. He described long travels from Mohican State Park to Massillon, Columbus, Phoenix, Bakersfield, and Detroit before settling in Michigan, where he worked while attending electronics school. Blough expressed remorse and said he would consider enlistment if offered, with his Detroit court case still pending.
Carni-Fair reported a net profit of 1213 dollars after a five day run last month. Attendance grew daily, peaking on Saturday with the largest receipts as kiddie rides, bingo, and food concessions led overall revenue.
Services were held Thursday for Mrs Lavina Lance 93 formerly of 14 West Ohio Avenue Rittman. She had lived at Horn Nur sing Home in Wooster for four years and was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church in Rittman. Survived by husband Ervin R and several nieces and nephews, she was preceded by four brothers and two sisters. Burial was in Rittman Cemetery with Rev F D Donaldson officiating.
The Women's Republican Club of Rittman hosts two coffee gatherings at the Rittman Public Library meeting room to introduce candidates on the November ballot. John D Herbert will speak on Monday September 10 at 9 a.m., followed by John Marshall Briley on Thursday September 13 at 10:30 a.m. Interest is open to all residents.
