A government study notes Wayne County has high birth numbers despite a national dip. Local topics include Cleo the bassett hound’s nine puppies, hospital births, birthday and anniversary notices, school band performances, club events, and residents traveling or hosting gatherings.
Six teens in Rittman will be charged with vandalism after a weekend of acts police say involved trash can tipping, damaged bikes and cars, ripped gardens, moved sale signs, rocks on lawns, dumped trash, damaged shrubs and multiple traffic signs. Several players from local families are among those questioned. names withheld until formal charges.
Larry Whitenack, 29, was removed from the serious list after a mid air collision during a baton pass at Moreland. His parachute tore and he landed in trees on Paul Wirt property, sustaining multiple injuries including broken ribs and bruises. He had completed over 180 jumps at Moreland Airport.
John Perry new water department superintendent replacing Arley Moyer. Moyer to stay with department. City Manager Charles Mann announced the change effective immediately. Perry to serve six month probation before full official hiring at 400 dollars per month.
A group of fourth and fifth grade girls faces disbanding this fall unless leaders step forward in the next weeks. Mrs. Ralph Gwaltney and Mrs. William Mays head the drive to recruit women to lead the junior Scout troops with three assistant leaders already in place. City Manager Charles Mann says the long range comprehensive planning survey by Vogt-Ivers and Associates of Cincinnati should finish by month end. The plan studies future needs and land use inside Rittman and within a three mile planning area to guide growth over 22 years toward a 1990 population of about 14 000.

Seven year old Michael J Pasho, son of Mr and Mrs James Pasho, was killed Saturday when he rode his bicycle into a driveway and into the path of a car near 444 West Sunset Street. Services were held Tuesday at St Ann s Catholic Church with Rev Dennis Farr officiating before burial at Rittman Cemetery. He was born in Wadsworth and lived in Rittman. he would have started second grade at West Hill Elementary. He is survived by his parents four sisters Linda Nancy Diane and Peggy and by maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Fred Hammer of Wadworth and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs J B Pasho of Sterling. He died from internal injuries en route to Arrori Children s Hospital.
The City of Rittman assigns four crossing guards for school safety. Earl Moore works at the city square at the Ohio Avenue and Main Streets intersection. Nancy Dodrill guards First Street and Ohio Avenue. Christine Dolan oversees Diversion Hall and Liberty Streets crossing. Pearl Loving is posted at Metzger Avenue and North Street.
The Green River Ordinance faces its final third reading Monday night with council split over livelihoods versus nuisance peddlers. Four members oppose the measure while three support it, and a 3 to 3 tie could hinge on Major Aidan te's vote. A vote on the ordinance may be decided after two weeks of review.
