Four 4-H Cookettes bake cookies for Vietnam service

Bonnie Ram sier Teresa Rock Dayna Rock and Carol Emch led four 4-H Cookettes in baking two dozen cookies each for adopted Vietnam soldiers Hai Wink outpost. They earned A’s in 4-H judging and sent varied treats to named soldiers including Charles Houseworth who was recently injured.

Rittman plans house open and council approves

Rittman officials set an open house for September 22 with prices ranging from 66 500 to 70 800 by three appraisers before a purchase by the council. The vacant rear lot called a Pride tag was priced at 7 000 by the seller. Plans call for a map room and a drafting office in vacated city hall offices. Gosney says the rooms are needed for citizens to privately discuss income tax with staff. Fire department rooms will be vacated for city storage. A speaker is planned. name to be announced. The building housed police dispatch, squad rooms, two private offices, and jail cells. West wing remodeling creates new fire department HQ with a 19x30 training room and 14x15 kitchen. Six trucks and an old Lafayette truck will be housed. The property includes two rear lots for parking. Remodeling costs run about 7 000. Council cites space for police and parking as key benefits and notes better location and accessibility. The building and lots were appraised at unspecified figures.

Garden Club Earns Third In Civic Beautification

Buckeye Garden Club members were notified of a third place win at the state convention in Columbus for the Knapp Church grounds project. A dinner meeting at Homestead Restaurant in Orrville on Tuesday Sept 24 will install officers. Members toured Arthur Storm's rock garden in Wadsworth. Storm makes dried arrangements and paintings. A business meeting was held at Knapp church with hostesses Mrs. Frank Bostancic and Mrs. Charles Grant.

Hospital to be completed by April says Rundle

Wadsworth Rittman Hospital Joint Township board plans September meeting at the new facility. President Wilford Blatter notes great progress this summer as William Rundle, hospital administrator, says the 100 bed air conditioned hospital is slated for completion in April 1969 though overall construction remains about four months behind. The four story building sits on 37 acres at Leatherman and Grace Roads, north of Rittman, with main maintenance and utilities finished and interior work starting this winter.

Services For Jos Gaborsky Requiem Mass Thursday

Requiem Mass for Joseph S. Gaborsky 62 of 116 Frederick will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from St. Ann Catholic Church. The Rev. Father Clarence Liederbach will officiate. Gaborsky died Monday evening at home from a heart attack. He was born in Elizabethport New Jersey and lived in New York City before moving to Rittman 38 years ago. He retired last year from Packaging Corporation of America after 38 years as a production clerk. He was first president of Local 150 International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulfite and Paper Mill Workers for seven years. Survivors include wife Antoinette three sons Joseph of Wadsworth Walter of Marshallville and Henry of Rittman two daughters Mrs Ethel Kimes of Rittman and Antoinette at home brothers Edward of St. Johnsbury St Godfrey of Milwaukee and Charles of Farmingdale New York and a sister Mrs Mary Stommer of Staten Island New York and three grandchildren. Friends may call today Wednesday at Gillman Funeral Home from 2 4 and 7 9 pm Bible service at 4 p.m. Burial in Rittman Cemetery.

Doylestown Soldier Killed in Vietnam Conflict

Forestal A. Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo J. Stevens of Doylestown RD 1 and husband of Barbara Stevens, was killed in Vietnam. He was reported killed in action Thursday by the Defense Department after nine weeks of advanced infantry training at Ft. Gordon, Ga., finishing in October 1966. Arrangements are pending.

Open House At Boy's Village

Boys Village hosts an open house on Sunday September 15 at 2 pm inviting the public with no charge. Two lakes will be dedicated Lester R Thompson Memorial Lake and Harvey Speer Schultz Memorial Lake during ceremonies connected to the event. Brush Fire Responded At Salisbury Home Route 126

Chippewa Township firefighters answered a brush fire call Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Wayne Salisbury residence on Route 126 in Rittman Road. The fire was extinguished before fire units arrived.

Hat Out Booster Club Fundraiser at First Street School

The Rittman Booster Club hosts Hat Out fundraiser Friday at First Street School before Avon football game. Serving from 5 to 8 PM with turkey sandwiches, sloppy joes, hot dogs, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, homemade pie, ice cream, musk and coffee.
