Rittman City Councilman Dead Weselek Promoted By Columbia Gas

William F. Weselek, manager for Columbia Gas of Ohio in Rittman, is promoted to Shelby manager effective Jan 1 1973. C Carl Hughes of Crooksville will succeed him and oversee Rittman Creston Seville and surrounding areas. Weselek, born in Cleveland, educated at Lodi High and the University of Akron, has served with the company since 1957. He is active in local civic groups, lives with his wife Barbara at 311 Rufener St in Rittman, and has four sons. Hughes began with the company in 1947, rose to his present post in 1952, and serves on multiple local boards in Crooksville. He and his wife Wyona reside at 321 N Buckeye St with two daughters.

Rash Of Accidents Mar Rittman Weekend

A string of weekend accidents in the Rittman area injured several people. Diana Resecker and Gardee Neff were in a collision on Stewart Drive near Mennonite Road sending Neff to Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. John Hamilton, driving fast in a 1965 Chevrolet on County Road 70, left the road, overturned, and suffered minor injuries. cited for speed for conditions. Harold E. Marty, on County Road 60, hit a stop sign at 504 and a house, then was hospitalized at Wayne General and cited for DWI.

Jay Griffith Elected To Council This Month

Jay Griffith former president of Kittman City Council died Friday evening at Wooster Community Hospital after an illness. He served on Rittman City Council from 1966 to 1970 and was elected again this month to fill a vacancy. He supported HUD housing, the Civic Center plan, and Route 57 development. Survived by wife Jerry, son Jack, daughter Nancy Gostlin, siblings, and four grandchildren. Services were held Monday at First Brethren Church with burial in Rittman Cemetery.

Garden Club Bazaar Friday at Wright's Drug Store

The Buckeye Garden Club hosts its annual bazaar on Friday December 1 at Wright's Drug Store in Rittman. Hours run 9 am to 9 pm with Christmas items, ornaments, wreaths, decorations, and baked goods. Proceeds support the club’s beautification projects in Rittman.

UF Volunteers Hold Final Dinner

The 1972 United Fund Campaign ended with a Dutch Treat dinner at Williams Restaurant. Chairman Tom Sparks announced the drive reached 94 percent of its $21,000 goal, totaling $19,842.38. Sparks thanked organizers including Allen Broadhurst and Morton Salt for publicizing and aiding the campaign. United Fund president Bob Gillman praised Sparks and Thelma Gwaltney, who has served 11 years, and announced the annual meeting in January to elect officers.

Rittman School Yearbook Orders Open Until Friday

Orders will be taken for the Rittman School yearbook until Friday December 1. No orders after that date. Books will be on sale at the school in June. To order, call the high school office. A deposit of at least half three dollars twenty five cents must be placed at the time of order.
