A crowded Sunday dedication at Rittman High School celebrated the new post office on North Main Street. Officials highlighted funding delays from 1938 to 1965 and noted Robert West as new assistant postmaster while honoring retiring Willard Hilty.
Rittman area guidance counselors urge more time for counseling at the junior high and elementary levels to address dropouts and better fit student needs. They propose three half days weekly for guidance, group sessions when possible, and a study of dropout causes, while noting space and privacy considerations.
Jolly Men meet Monday for the Fat Man's Club first fall session at Rittman High School. Fun Night planned. Exercise period begins at 8 p.m. Meetings every Monday thereafter until 9 45 p.m.
In a 1964 village meeting, the council raises police pay by 25 monthly starting December 1, adding fulltime officer Michael Durham as patrolman while patrolman Eric Murphy recovers. Water billing shifts to a three district staggered plan with quarterly returns after initial cycles, and state funds shift police pension financing. Two new water department staff join, and plans address landfill terms as well as pipe rust from well five reconditioning.
Mrs Richard Rupp announces a Bloodmobile visit Monday December 5 from 12 noon to 6 pm at the American Legion Hall to reach a 125 pint quota. A large local volunteer team coordinates donors registration and scheduling with hostesses and staff aiding in outreach from Creston Sev ile Sterling Smithville and nearby areas.
At a sparsely attended meeting the Rittman board discussed crowded cafeterias and the need for a larger guidance program from elementary through high school. Principal Miller and Mrs Roth cited time and funding concerns as they considered lunch delays and potential cost increases to support meal quality.
Forrest Ritzman 69 of Norton died in Wadsworth Rittman Hospital after a period of illness. He was born in Akron and lived in Summit County. he owned Wadsworth Drug Store for 16 years. Survived by wife Marie and six sons Walter Earl Gerald Eric Norton. Robert Barberton. Paul in Army at Ft Benning GA. 10 grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday at Noble Avenue Apostolic Christians Church Akron.
Services were held in Marlinton West Virginia for Thomas L Chestnut 76 of 297 Ritter Drive. He died Sunday evening at his daughter Mary Perrys home where he had lived six years after a long illness. He was born in West Virginia and survived by a daughter two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gillman Funeral Home arranged local services.
Bob Heames rises to vice president with responsibilities for five container plants in the Evans ton area. Stanley F Allison named president and chief executive officer and Jami N Andrews elected chair man of the board. Ralph Effler moves to Rittman plant as industrial relations supervisor replacing Clark Michael who becomes industrial relations director for Harris Intertype in Winchester. J D P Carey joins Te Inc board while remaining PCA director and chair of its executive committee. Gordon B Bonfield Jr becomes senior vice president container division.
