Autumn leaf rail ramble via Erie Railroad coaches

A long Sunday trip by Erie Railroad trains drew about 1,000 residents from Sterling and nearby areas to Little Valley New York for a Sunday dinner. The journey featured stops, friendly towns, and a mishap with cars uncoupling twice, then a late night return. Local notices invite involvement with Santa Claus plans, library reviews, Pancake and Sausage Day, birthday acknowledgments, and updates on local residents and a home return.

Newly Elected Officials Take Office December 2 in C ity election

Council President Ashton Hall won the mayoralty with 706 of 1221 votes, sweeping all six precincts. Warren Hardgrove was runner up with 403 votes and Harry Griner 115. New councilors Roger Hessidence Edward Musser and William Holt will join the council for two years. Hessidence led the parade with 688, Musser 608, Holt 555. Other results include township clerk Paul Baker and trustees, school board members, and local bond issues, with Doylestown incumbents Dartmouth and Reed winning re elections and issues passing or failing as recorded.

Recreation Benefits Report For Muskingum District Expansion

The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District filed with 18 county clerks the Board of Appraisers report on a federal grant funded recreation expansion at Atwood Lake Carroll County. The plan includes a 100 room inn dining facility two vacation cabins and a large shelter. District bonds of 1.2 million may be issued if approved with costs covered by operating income and grants.

Milford To Resign From City Council

Neil Milford expected to resign from Milford council Monday night. Milford, Atlas Freight Lines employee, will transfer to Newark Ohio December 1. A Rittman resident, he is midway through a two year term. Council likely to appoint a replacement at the November 25 meeting and the new member will be sworn in after votes on December 2.

The winner of the slogan contest by the Rittman Chamber of Commerce will be announced on December 2. A committee including van Kine Ralph Overholt James Witzberger and F O Kanehl will meet to select finalists in three categories. Chamber directors will choose the winner from these.
