Rittman visitors tour city and nearby swamp

Creatives from California and New York visited Rittman this week. John Morton toured the Morton Salt plant and saw how the line runs, product flow, cleanliness, and tours are conducted. The group also toured residential districts and the swamp, saw migrating birds, and a turtle hunter offered two big turtles. Birthday wishes fill the week for many local residents, with anniversaries and family visits noted. other items include birth announcements and a class social at Otterbein.

Industrial Week a Big Success in Rittman

Rittman area marks first Industrial Week with open houses at Morton Salt and others. Plant tours drew 3,107 registrants at Morton Salt, with several hundred more unregistered. RAID and Chamber praise industry for support while planning future events. Meanwhile a 15 member committee will study Milton Township zoning, with a five step plan leading to a November 1964 ballot. Residents urged to participate, noting zoning history and farm exemptions.

Mother Of Local Man Is Buried

Services for Mrs. Iva J. Anshutz 56 of Seville, mother of Glenn Miller of Rittman, were held Saturday. She died Thursday at home after a long illness. She belonged to Kingdom Hall Church of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Wadsworth. Surviving her husband Russell four sons William Miller Monrovia California David E Miller Orrville and Larry Miller in the U S Navy a brother Millard Long Leroy two sisters Bessie Oxenrider Hermanville and Mary Dull Chippewa Lake and 19 grandchildren. Ray A Leistitow officiated at R D Armstrong and Son Funeral Home Seville. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery Wadsworth.

Rittman Plans 30 Day Sidewalk Construction Emergency

Rittman City Council declared an emergency requiring sidewalks on West Sunset Drive and the west side of Metzger Avenue with a 30 day compliance window. If not finished the city will complete the work and bill property owners. The measure aims to safeguard West Hill School children.

Former Resident Dies In Crash In Akron

William Baldridge 60 a former Rittman resident died Monday night when his car hit a sign pole on the Expressway during a rainstorm in Akron Services will be Friday at 1 pm at Billow Memorial Cuyahoga Falls Baldridge lived in Rittman for 10 years moved to Harmony Hills Akron in 1958 He was a B F Goodrich Company executive and senior buyer In 1959 he was transferred to Australia and returned to Akron the next year He was past president of University Club a member of Yusef Khan Grotto and a graduate of Washington and Jefferson University He was born in Latrobe Pa Surviving are his wife Sonia and a step son Dino Barabas Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm Cremation will follow services at which Dr Harry D Rose of Goodyear United Presbyterian Church will officiate

Legality Test in Suit Over Referral Sale in Ohio

In Cuyahoga County a lawsuit by Leland Musser of Marshallville targets the legality of referral sales. A June 24 trial led to an injunction blocking nearly 500000 in notes and prohibiting collection and calls to Musser-provided names.

X-Ray Unit Coming June 10

The Wayne County Mobile Chest X-ray unit will visit the Ohio Edison Company building on Monday June 10. Free service for residents over 65. others may donate $1. The hours are 8:30 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 4:30.

Bloodmobile Visit Set for July 22 in Town

Circle your calendar for Monday July 22 as the Bloodmobile visits town to boost summer blood supplies. Co chairmen Mrs Dale Widmer Mrs Albert Gasser Jr Mrs Harold Widmer and Mrs Kennet Ramster lead the drive, contacting past donors and volunteers. They met with leaders including Mrs Irene Bergman and discussed new donor recruitment methods. An intensive drive will occur before the event with future announcements in this newspaper.

Mrs Mabel Gersten Slager Dies at 61 in Wooster

Mrs Mabel Gerstenslager 61, longtime Creston businessman’s wife, died after two years illness. Services were held Wednesday in Wooster with burial in Creston Cemetery. Survived by husband Harry M. a daughter Ann at home two sisters Marie Cochrell and Floyd Wagner and a brother Clayton Lance. Rev Sloan Whitacre officiated.

Plans Announced For Three Bible Schools

Rittman churches announce Daily Vacation Bible School programs in early June. The Church of Christ at 130 North Main Street runs June 3 to 7 at 7:30 p.m. with the theme The Home in Which I Live and nightly speakers Arthur Thomas J A Gladwell Donald Anguish and Glenn Mellett.
