Bill and Gladys Davis test a mobile home from Rich Motors in northern Michigan. They settle in a park stall for dinner and are amused by a custodian who jokes about camping. The piece also lists local notices, hospital updates, and community events through Memorial Day weekend.
The Chamber of Commerce in Rittman, led by president Ben Bodager, forms a committee headed by L K Burnett to lure higher income families to live in the community. Burnett will seek a joint meeting with the Council, Planning Commission, Vogt-Ivers and Associates, and local realtors. The group notes many high earners live outside Rittman and outlines a plan to bring them in. The Rittman Press will run a series titled Its Great to Live in Rittman next week. Chamber membership has grown to 91, doubling from last year.
Strawberry lovers are invited to the annual festival sponsored by the Rittman Temple Corporation on June 21 from 5 30 to 7 30 p m on the Strickland lawn 3 South Main Street. Tickets are 1 for adults 50 cents for children 3 to 12 and under 6 free. If bad weather hits the event moves to the Masonic Temple.
Rittman launches a full summer program with a pool playground and baseball leagues starting Monday June 10. Five playgrounds operate with schedules at Legion Park Grandview Third Street and Front Street. pool hours 1 to 5 and 6 to 9 Monday to Friday and 1 to 9 weekends. Lifeguards named and admission 25 cents students 50 cents adults. Summer includes dress up events pet show hat week art and Mardi Gras with a new king and queen selection. Baseball and tennis continue with multiple leagues and safety rules in effect at the pool and courts.
The Rev Richard Milford formerly of Rittman was installed as minister of Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church Michigan at special services. He is a Ohio University and Princeton Seminary graduate who served in Korea and studied at Edinburgh and Heidelberg. Attendees included many Milford family members and local members. a reception and dinner followed at the church and country club on Sunday.
The first annual Rittman volunteer firemen festival runs June 12 to 15 beside Diversion Hall with Burton Amusements bringing a portable roller coaster and eight rides including a ferris wheel and kiddie auto ride. Firemen and auxiliary booths offer games and prizes nightly with drawings and a top cash prize. proceeds fund new fire equipment.
The ceremony honored nursing scholar recipient Grace Griffith and several state award recipients. Ronnie Kuntz was named Parent Teachers Association teaching scholar, with funds sent to the hospital. Jane Melenbacker Wane Bartram Barbara Lewis and Nanes Griffith received State Awards of Distinction.
A 15 member panel was named by trustees Tuesday night to study zoning pros and cons in Milton Township. Members include Sylvan Wiles Lynn Welker Joe Winkler Ned Reynolds Al Johnson Dewey Hart Wiliam Ruttencutter Alvin Steiner Ernest Bodager Jack Maibach Mrs Ernest Hess Mrswareler Mid King. The committee will consult zoning experts and plan a five step program leading to a November 1964 ballot. The board seeks federal aid to cover an estimated 2500 dollars for the effort.
Two graduate girls Emceh Beourher and Covenia Thompson, daughters of local families, are candidates for radiation from Ohio State University Columbus. They will receive diplomas at commencement exercises Friday in Ohio Stadium. Jerome Lawrence, renowned playwright, will deliver the commencement address. Both will receive bachelor of science in education. A total of 2494 students are scheduled to receive degrees Friday.
Thirty five Rittman High School students earn honor roll for the second semester 1962-63 under Principal John R Heter. Four graduates and several others attain all A’s with multiple As. juniors sophomores and freshmen also listed with various A and B grades.
Richard Dale Yoder 36 died Sunday evening at Dunlop Hospital Orrville after a heart attack seen during a Memorial Day parade. Born in Berlin he lived in Orrville since 1922 and worked at Orrville Beds Co. Survived by wife Maxine Straub Yoder and six children Richard 12 Raneville Victoria 7 Valeri 5 Mitchell 17, mother Mrs Mary Snider Yoder, brother William L Yoder, sister Mrs Charles Kramer, and one sister in Marshallville. Father Warner Yoder preceded him.
The Rittman Wadsworth Hospital group plans a Monday meeting in Wadsworth City Council rooms. The steering committee will review progress on a countywide membership drive for a non profit hospital group launching a $2 million 100 bed hospital project, with leaders Glenn Parman and Henry LeBeau reporting.
Trustees from PCA tour Akron Ohio area hotels and meeting sites with local officials. Executives and county trustees discuss state groups reports and planned tours. A banquet is scheduled for Thursday at 6 30 with discussions on equipment and governance. The article notes dates and participants including Fred Rice and Paul Bill among others.
Mobile chest X ray unit will be at Ohio Edison between 9:50 am and 12:00 pm. The service is free for those over 65, with a $2 fee for others, and students may attend to further education.
