The Rittman Bicentennial Committee outlined July 2 events led by 1776 Queens and a 4 PM Parade of Youth starting Grant Street, ending at First Street School with a Rotary barbecue. A 7 PM I Love America pageant features 100 voices and orchestra, tickets $1 adults $0.50 students. fireworks at Industrial Park ~9:30 PM.

Dissatisfaction with merit pay for city employees surfaced, while REA proposals remained to be discussed with Tom Palecek. Other actions included amendments to a Health District contract for a plumbing inspector, an ordinance to raise firefighters wages, a tabled street lighting extension with Ohio Edison, and a Local Government Fund distribution resolution. The North Main Street loan will bear 4.12 percent interest until due, then 5 percent thereafter.

Dr Donald Rose announces departure from Rittman this summer to join the Air Force as a Lt Colonel. He will undergo orientation training at Sheppard AFB before reporting to Norton AFB, after 18 years of medical practice and service as Wayne County Coroner. He has held leadership roles in Milton Presbyterian Church Ohio Osteopathic Association and the Rittman Rotary Club, and recently attended the Armed Forces Dinner Dance in Cleveland with his wife.
