Robert L. Fix 72 of Creston died Thursday at Wooster Community Hospital after admission born October 31 1902 in McConnelsburg Pa son of Daniel and Amelia Fix lived in Rittman 46 years then moved to Creston eight years ago retired in 1972 after 37 years as a body man at H. L. Strickland Inc survived by wife Thelma son Ronald daughters Wanda Smith Karen Hamlien six grandchildren brother James of Chambersburg Pa three sisters Alice Wible Mary Cutshall Carrie Cutshall services held 1 p m Monday Gillman Funeral Home officiated burial in Rittman Cemetery.
Susie Balas and Ellen Smucker report rising youth drug use locally and nationwide. Ohio youth ages 14 to 24 reportedly show high marijuana use. alcohol and drug combinations create concern. Heroin and cocaine on the rise. a Creston heroin source was disrupted. JOY program offers counseling and job placement for teens with a Rittman office operating on specific days and hours.
Dexter Woods became the first 4.0 student to win the Rittman Press Scholar Athlete award at the spring banquet. He earned four varsity letters and maintained a 32 average, with perfect attendance. Greg Sanders received the Jack Potts Award as MVP pitcher for the Rittman Indians after an 8-1 season.
Clarence L. Kindig 60 of 297 North St died of an apparent heart attack at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. Born August 6 1914 in Rittman he worked 42 years as a shipping clerk at Boise Cascade. Survived by wife Virginia two sons Kim and Kit two brothers and four grandchildren. Mass Thursday at St Anne's with burial in Rittman Cemetery. Rosary Wednesday 8:30 PM at Gillman Funeral Home.
State Senator David L Headley of the 28th District will be the memorial day speaker after the parade on May 26. Headley serves as Ohio Senate Ethics Committee chair and holds multiple committee roles. The parade forms at 10 a.m. on Erie Street, starting 10:30 a.m. Participants should contact Gary Schaub to join.
Mayor Ashton Hall proclaims May 23 and 24 as Poppy Days in Rittman 1975. Poppy Chairman Mrs Joseph Stefanica of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 423 announces sales downtown and at the Rittman Shopping Center on both days.
Holiday schedule announces an early deadline for classified and display ads as well as church and club news. All items must be received by Friday May 23 at 2 p.m. Memorial Day will be observed Monday May 26.
Donna Burkhart of Rittman was honored at Wayne General and Technical College Orrville for the 1974 Warrior Service Award at the first Awards Banquet held Saturday May 17. The award recognizes scholarship leadership and service to Wayne College. Donna is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Burkhart of Rittman.
West Hill School announced contest results with perfect scores for Second Grade through Fifth Grade. The Rittman Board of Education certified that 124 seniors met graduation requirements. Commencement is set for Sunday June 1 at 3 p.m. on the football field. The board accepted resignations of Deborah Thompson and Wes Peterman, hired James Zerkle as Intra-mural Director, granted a maternity leave for Lorranine Hutchison, and discussed high school door repairs costing 4,000 to 5,000 dollars.
