First Bonus Night Drawing Held Sat for $100 Prize

A public drawing produced a $100 top prize with $15 and $10 second prizes awarded to Glen Mohler and Tommie Wenger. A crowd attended the event at Salt and Marnsts with Ohio Fuel Gas joining the program. Rules set by the Chamber trustees require one ticket per 50 cent S purchase, proper stub deposit, and 5 p.m. cutoff each Saturday.

Community Auction Plans By Booster Club Directors

Booster club directors meet to plan a community auction likely in late June. Donations may include used furniture clothing and tools with new merchandise from merchants. Proceeds fund school athletics with Myron Steiner as auctioneer.

James Coyle Killed in Wreck at Easton

James Carl Coyle 20 of Marshallville died early Wednesday in a car crash on Route 5 over Chippewa Creek near Easton. Car owner Wayne Forrer 22 of Rittman survived with possible internal injuries and a fractured ankle. Forrer said Coyle drove at the time of impact. Coyle’s skull was fractured as he went through the windshield. Services set for Friday at Mill Funeral Home Doylestown.

Memorial Day Services Planned by Legion

Memorial Day events are planned by the Rittman American Legion post for Sunday afternoon May 30. A parade will form near Gordon garage on Hrid? Street at 1 p.m. and proceed to the square, with all patriotic groups invited to join. Services at the cemetery follow at 2 p.m. Rev. John Kindswatter will deliver the main address. Legionaries in charge include Walter Keating, Robert Wenger, John Winkler, Marvin Wenger, and Chas. Rohrer.

Infant buried after stillbirth at Clinton cemetery

A stillborn infant was born to Mr and Mrs Lester Ferguson at Wadsworth Hospital early Saturday morning May 8. Interment followed in Clinton cemetery Saturday afternoon with Gillman Funeral Homes in charge of arrangements.

Deer sighting near Elmer Bodager farm reported

Mrs. R V Frederick reports seeing a deer on the Elmer Bodager farm about three miles south of Rittman several weeks ago. Bodager has found deer tracks around his farm on multiple occasions.

Fatality Brings Waynes County Traffic Toll to Nine

A fatal crash at a bridge at the foot of a hill where Route 5 curves into Easton raises Waynes County traffic deaths this year to nine, three fewer than the ten recorded by this time in 1947.
