Families share a weekend in Monroe County with meals and kinship memories. Community items list appointments, births, weddings, birthdays, club meetings, library landscaping by Rittman High School Biology II students, a postponed choir concert, a new local pharmacist, and various local birthdays anniversaries and congratulations.
Rittman High School announces the fifth six weeks honor roll led by seniors and juniors with all A averages. Named seniors include Hensley Copley Jackson Likens Spence Bauman Haulk Bigler Jewell Moss. Juniors Ott Ditch Nelson Bodager Moss Davis. Sophomores Bauman Rohrer Bodager Chorba. Earning at least two A s in full credit subjects and B s in others are listed by class with numerous names across seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen including Hileman Stone Williams Lovrak Pertee Winkler Davis Hutchison Champlin Noble Banders Beery Smoot Frase Wheeler Jenkins Sword Hatten Murray Caudill Henthorn Rastorfer Voss McComas Fetzer Lind Bostancic Zivick Hessidence Ferrer Dotterer Blough Alexander Nitz Ramsier Perry Imhoff Jensen Adams Thomasson Watt Ramsier Bauer Hobbs.
The event by the Instrumental and Art Departments showcases nearly 40 high school artists with drawings sculptures and ceramics plus watercolors and paintings. The Middle School hosts a community display while the Rittman High School Stage Band debuts alongside Junior and Senior High School bands performing varied classical and contemporary pieces. Tickets are 1 for adults and .75 for students. concert at the Middle School on Sunday May 23 at 2 pm.
Six graders from Akron visited Stan Hywet Hall on April 29 guided by Mrs Nancy Harder and Mrs Becky Falkenberg with 90 students in total. They toured select rooms including the indoor pool and music room while admiring the polar bear rug in the main hall. A second group of ninety joined the trip the next day under supervision by Mrs Mary Holt Mrs Nicodemus and Bill Miller.
Norwayne High School announces the fifth six weeks honor roll with seniors on 40 average: Karen Bowman Bruce Daugherty Gwen Gordon Cathy Irvin Vicki Maibach Connie Ramseyer Frank Steller Jill Tyler. Juniors include Kathie Artrip Diane Fetzer Sue Krabill Sid Richard. Sophomores listed are Ken Adkins Bill Chaffin Donna Irvin Doreen Stellar Stanley Yablonski Sharon Yarnell.
Rittman High School will host its annual All Sports Banquet in the High School Gymnasium Thursday at 6 30 pm. It is a covered dish dinner with a one dollar admission for the public except participants. Athletes from all sports will be honored with awards including the Rittman Press Scholar Athlete award and the JC award.
Susie E Stefanica 81 of 30 N Seneca St died Thursday evening May 6 at her home after a two month illness. Born May 22, 1889 in Czechoslovakia she came to the U S in 1908 and to Barberton then moved to Rittman 61 years ago. She was a St Ann Catholic Church and Altar Society member and a American Legion Auxiliary member. Survivors include son Joe of Rittman seven daughters. Requiem Mass was held May 10 at St Ann Church with burial in Rittman Cemetery. Guillman Funeral Home handled arrangements.
The Bloodmobile will be in Rittman at the American Legion Tuesday May 18 from 12 to 6 pm with Dr F M Vargas Dr Cahit Chorba Dr Neiswander and Dr Roland Burelli on site. Lois Beres Carol Widmer and Ginger Stucky head nurses. City employees unload trucks and Boy Scout troop 405 handles equipment. First Brethren Church women supply the canteen. Call Mrs Arthur Bodager 925 3212 for transport and scheduling. Anyone 18 to 65 may donate. Walk-ins welcome.
Kittman City Council tabled the Ohio Edison rate increase ordinance and sent it to committee after a Utilities Committee recommendation from Chairman Al Imhoff. Imhoff favored about 45 percent, citing aid to fixed incomes and thrift. Councilman Dick Winkler opposed parts of the proposal, warning about fuel and tax adjustment clauses. If adopted, Ohio Edison could gain over 12 million in new revenue. the issue may go to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. City Manager Robert Trimble was directed to seek a Federal grant for a microstraining and disinfection station to handle sewer overflow, with 95 percent funded by the federal government and a city share of 7,400. The project aims to reduce sewer backups in Main Stand Home St.
