Four Rittman children Chris Eheman Judy Sparks Mike Allie and Eleanor Schneider will appear on WWST Wooster Saturday at 9 a.m. in a program titled Young Stars Revue. The segment showcases local child talent and is hosted by station staff.
Rittman considers hiring a full time city engineer or city manager after a legal opinion from solicitor C E Rhonemus. Mayor Ritter names council as committee of the whole to gather facts for an early meeting with a Chamber of Commerce study requested. Other actions include suppressing railroad car parking near S Main crossing and seeking exit and dump inspections and usage.
Johnny Mulls and his Rodeo Rangers with Cheyenne and the Sunshine Girls bring a western program to the Rittman high school auditorium Friday at 8 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Boosters Club School Athletic fund. Mills, son of Mr and Mrs William Mills, 192 Hickin Ave, appears in the event.
The Hershey Memorial chimes were formally dedicated May 1 during the church’s 40th anniversary and homecoming. Bishop G D Batdorf of Dayton led the ceremony while Mrs Cleo Breneman played organ and chime recital. The 21-gipe electronic chimes, nearly two octaves, were purchased by Edith Hershey, Elizabeth McQuigg and Charles Hershey in memory of Benjamin Hershey and installed via Halle Bros. of Cleveland from J C Deagan Inc Chicago.
Jane Rolph will be crowned May Queen at Rittman High School May Festival on Thursday May 19 at 7 pm at the athletic field. If weather fails, dates move to May 20 or May 23 with 7 pm performances. Eight couples escort the Queen as 16 court members attend. The program features a chorus and band number Cruising Down the River and a pastel green orchid and yellow color theme.
Last week the police court, before Mayor Melvin R. Ritter, handled cases of intoxication and reckless driving. Willard Moyer of 18914 S Main St received 50 dollars fine and 80 days jail, with 25 dollars of fine and 25 days suspended and one year probation. Charles Sigler of Willow Brook was guilty of reckless driving and speeding and mufflerless car use, fined 10 dollars plus costs. James Sylvester paid 15 dollars and costs for reckless driving in his second offense. Sammy Hatten of Creston faced intoxication and fighting charges, fined 25 dollars and costs with 15 dollars suspended and one year probation. Robert Johnson was fined 25 dollars and costs for driving without a license and reckless operation, with 15 dollars suspended if repairs to J R West's car are paid. May 1, Mrs J Grant received a card shower from Milton Presbyterian church. Regular Rittman Rod and Gun Club meeting announced for May 19 at city hall.
The County Highway Department will set up a sign at the junction of Routes 5 and 94 directing travellers to Rittman. Mayor Melvin R. Rittz was notified by County Division Superintendent Max Johnson. The move aligns with Chamber and City Council efforts to place highway signs on main roads near Rittman.
Boxboard team beat Chester 5 to 4 in Rittman to open Wayne County Baseball League play. Rittman surged with four eighth inning runs to grab the lead as they finished with eight hits and one error. Bradley and Rastoffer teamed for the win.
Police chief Charles Heffelman sideswiped a truck from Tri County Distributing near Barbertown one mile south of Rittman on Route 94. He contends he drove over the center line. his car was damaged while the truck overturned. Heffelman suffered a badly bruised knee. the other driver was uninjured. He had just returned from a 1050 mile Missouri trip with Sheriff Glen Rike and had extradited two prisoners.
Birth notices list Marshall Allen Sam mons born at Wadsworth hospital on Thursday April 28 weighing eight pounds three ounces to Mr and Mrs Paul Sammons formerly Ruth Marshall. A son weighing seven pounds twelve ounces to Mr and Mrs David Parsons of 43 Ist street born Wednesday. A daughter Patt Ann to Capt and Mrs Robert W White of Columbus born Monday evening May 9. Alfred Randolph Boyce born Saturday May 7 at Wadsworth hospital weighing five pounds 15 ounces to Mr and Mrs Alfred Boyce of 291 N Senecast.
Three Arts club will sponsor a Silver tea and book review Thursday June 2 at 8 p.m. in the parlors of United Brethren church. Mrs Earl Stutzman of Orrville reviews Smile Please by Mildred Storer Top. Girls' Sextette of the high school will sing. Mrs J C Fretwell chairs. Hearing postponed for GIO petition to represent Ohio Boxboard employees to May 18.

E M Sutton of Canton spoke to the Rittman Rotary at the United Brethren church lunch Thursday. Sutton, a member of the Ohio Industrial Commission based in Canton, spoke on the topic My Brother and ye.
